A 25-YEAR-OLD veteran horse has made a comeback to win a string of awards.
Bought as an unruly four-year-old, Mr Nutmeg tested his owner Alison Dalby of Westow, before finding his niche as a show horse, winning placings at the Horse of the Year Show and Royal International.
Alison said: “Supposedly retired, Nutmeg wasn’t a happy hacker but a great farrier, herbal supplements and loads of grass led me to bring him back to the show world.
“Nutmeg was recently crowned National Diamond Ridden Veteran of the Year, then went on to take Reserve Ridden Champ and was Second Reserve Overall in the Supreme Championship.
“I am totally overwhelmed and still in shock. To do a lap of honour to ‘We are the Champions’ was definitely the icing on the cake.”
