A KIRKBYMOORSIDE dance school has picked up several awards at a Yorkshire dance festival.

The Sarah-Louise Ashworth School of Dance won nearly 70 medals and 17 trophies across the four-day 2019 Elmet Dance Festival in Tadcaster.

Seven dance schools from around Yorkshire attended the event, with the Kirkbymoorside dance school scooping a number of awards, including highest marker solo at the festival, most entertaining, most promising boy and best drama.

Sarah Louise Wood, the owner of Sarah-Louise Ashworth School of Dance, said: “I am extremely proud of all students who attended and feel the school continues to go from strength to strength.

“Our dance company has been attending different dance competitions for over 12 years and I believe the Elmet Dance festival has been the best one so far.”

The Sarah-Louise Ashworth School of Dance opened in Kirkbymoorside in January 2006.

Classes are held daily for children starting from three years, with adult classes available for dance, drama and singing.

Subjects include RAD ballet, IDTA ballet, modern, tap, jazz, theatre craft, commercial jazz, contemporary, acrobatic arts and musical theatre.

Sarah-Louise added: “We will shortly be starting rehearsals to prepare for the Pickering Pantomime which will be followed by Showcase 2020 in March.

“We have a busy year ahead, but all the children are excited and already showing team spirit.”
