POLICE were called to an incident involving reports of a drunken man with a knife in Parliament Street, Norton, at 2.35pm on Saturday.
Officers attended, and a 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife in a public place.
A police spokesperson said: "He was released having spent just over 20 hours in police custody, and will face no further action in connection with the incident. He had been using the knife in construction work earlier that day, along with other tools, and said he had forgotten about it on his walk home.
"We're grateful to members of the public who contacted the police promptly with their concerns about the man."
