A CAR driven by a tourist crashed into a parked vehicle and ended up on its side on a main road in York.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police described it as a "minor injury collision" which happened at around 8.40pm on Main Street in Fulford, near its junction with Delwood.

Police attended the scene along with fire and ambulance crews.

The police spokesman explained: "It involved a red Kia Venga driven by a 66-year-old woman which collided with a parked grey Fiat 500. The Kia ended up on its side.

"The driver suffered a minor injury to her arm and received treatment at York Hospital. A 68-year-old woman in the passenger seat was uninjured.

"Both vehicles were damaged and the Kia was recovered at the scene at 9.56pm."

Police inquiries confirmed that the driver was a tourist in a hire car who was inexperienced at driving on the left hand side of the road, the spokesman said, adding that no further police action was required and the matter will be resolved through insurance.
