THE Forestry Commission is celebrating its centenary with the planting of 100 trees in Dalby Forest.

Children from Thornton-le-Dale Primary School and Lady Lumley’s School in Pickering joined in the celebrations by planting the first of the trees last week.

Members of the public are invited to join volunteers to help plant the rest of the trees on Sunday, October 20, from 10am to noon, along the Ellerburn Trail, followed by the unveiling of a centenary stone with plaque.

Alan Eves, Forestry England’s forest management director, said: “This is an opportunity to be part of a unique celebration of one of the largest land management organisations in England. It will be great to share this with as many people as possible.”
