ST Leonard’s Hospice is celebrating Hospice Care Week, from October 5 to 13, by raising awareness for volunteers and less visible staff members.

From social workers and IT staff, to chefs and fundraisers – the week will showcase the contribution of everyone involved at the hospice in Tadcaster Road, York.

Jenny Brandom, the hospice’s director of clinical services, said: “For us, Hospice Care Week is not only a chance to raise awareness and dispel myths about hospice care; it is a chance to celebrate the people who help to make it happen.

“There are staff and volunteers across all departments of the hospice that do valuable work every day to make our care happen and this is the chance to learn more about them.”

The hospice is holding an open day on October 5, from 11am to 3pm, to show the different services available to the community, volunteers’ roles and recruitment opportunities.

Additionally, from October 7 to 10, hospice staff will be giving tours for anyone who is interested in finding out more about St Leonard’s.

Jenny added: “We encourage as many people to get involved as possible - we hope you will join in the celebrations with us.”
