THE North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) has honoured 10 “golden” volunteers for their dedication for the past 50 years.
The historical railway trust is a not-for profit organisation which relies on donations and the voluntary work to run events and services throughout the season.
Chris Price, the NYMR’s general manager, said: “It is a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated team. I am truly humbled to have celebrated this special occasion with such amazing people.”
Those celebrating their
golden anniversary year included drivers John Hunt, Terry Newman and Chris Cubitt, infrastructure volunteers Neil McDonald, Dave Torbet, Nick Carter, Ian Varty and Nigel Trotter, as well as carriage and wagon team members Ray Sowerby and Chris Lawson.
Chris added: “The year 1969 was a key date with the first rail movement taking place from Pickering to Grosmont, after the line closed.
“These volunteers have been here since the start of the North York Moors Historical Railway Trust.
“This is a major accomplishment for all 10 members.”
In order to safeguard its future and improve visitor accessibility NYMR is now fundraising for £1 million as part of its Yorkshire’s Magnificent Journey appeal.
