A CONSULTATION has been launched to find out people’s opinions on proposed changes to the council tax reduction scheme.
Ryedale District Council is deciding whether to change the scheme which helps people on a low income to pay their council tax.
The scheme replaced the national Council Tax Benefit, which ended in April 2013 and had been fully funded by the Government.
The consultation asks residents whether to increase the maximum level of support offered under the scheme, along with several proposed changes.
This includes introducing an income grid scheme for all working aged applicants, limiting the number of dependent children to a maximum of two for all applicants and a reduction of the capital limit to £6,000.
The changes only apply to the scheme’s working age customers – the arrangement for pension aged customers is set by the government.
The consultation is open until Sunday, October 6, and a final decision on the proposed changes will be taken at the full council meeting in December.
