THERE are just a handful of tickets left for Hot Flush The Musical, starring actress and comedian Su Pollard in York.

Performing at the Grand Opera House on September 24, at 7.30pm, the actress best known for her role as Peggy in the BAFTA award-winning sitcom Hi-de-Hi!, stars in the production about hitting the menopause years disgracefully.

The Hot Flush Club share in the friendship, secrets and the ups and downs of four ordinary women - Myra, Sylvia, Helen and Jessica.

Sharing insight on her personal experiences, Su said: “One of the women in the script says, ‘I don’t know why I’m like this. This is ridiculous’. I remember feeling that way - it was such a mystery suddenly not knowing yourself any more.

“When you have been through the menopause yourself, you are so relieved you are not going through it now.”

The musical follows Myra, a successful divorce barrister, whose husband has left her for a blonde bombshell.

Jessica is struggling in the midst of a midlife crisis, while Sylvia has been married to Joe since she was 20 - and been bored since she was 21.

Helen, played by Su Pollard herself, is trying to take one day at a time after the death of her husband; it is just that sometimes, several days hit her all at once.

Su said: “Helen is a widow who is still very loyal to her late husband, and she has a daughter at university.

“She is quite straightforward and likes to just get on with stuff.

“During the show, Helen realises it is her time now, time for her to start living for herself - and she embraces what’s happening.

“When she meets her new Mr Right, she thinks, ‘I’m going to give this a good go now’.”

After four sell-out tours, Hot Flush the Musical returns to the stage - for the first time in five years - with a major UK Tour, kicking off at the New Theatre Royal Lincoln on September 12.

On the subject of touring, Su added: “I have already been to a lot of the places Hot Flush is going on tour so that is really handy: you know exactly where the theatre is, you know where the Wetherspoon’s is and bonding with the cast is always vital too.

“I am also really pleased that I have embraced every bit of showbiz.

“A variety is always a good thing.

“Whatever I do in my life, I like to think, ‘I’m pleased with that decision’, because then there are no regrets looking back. I have no regrets.”

Tickets start from £13.
