A NEW nature trail has opened in Thornton-le-Dale.

The village’s hub volunteers have been working over recent months to clear and improve the pond area to create the trail.

Roger Sharples, chairman of the hub, said: “This has created a delightful place for both visitors and locals to visit and enjoy.

“A nature trail with interactive displays has also been devised for children to encourage an interest in nature.”

Mr Sharples said: “Visitors can collect a nature trail booklet from Wardills Newsagents or Balderson’s cafe in the village, which includes a range of questions and suggestions for activities while doing the trail, such as pond-dipping.

“A sink is located at the pond-dipping site so that the ‘finds’ can be examined with the aid of the magnifying glass provided.

“There are 14 separate stations along the trail and feedback so far is that children love it.

“The hub volunteers have also welcomed visits from schools bringing children to the pond area to learn about nature and have fun at the same time.”
