THE Ryedale Show committee has presented a cheque for £1,000 to staff and pupils of Welburn Hall School.
General secretary Christine Thompson said: “As a not-for-profit charity, the show likes to make charitable donations to other local organisations and, due to the bumper show held in 2018, have been able to present just over £8,000.”
One of the latest projects at Welburn Hall School involves the further development of its small farm that enables students to experience the rearing and looking after of animals, while also growing their own food.
Darren Kendall, site manager, said there are currently three therapy ponies on site, two sheep, three pigs and chickens who are already earning their keep by the sale of eggs. There are also eight raised beds, a large greenhouse and poly tunnel that are all wheelchair accessible.
He said: “The funds are greatly appreciated and will be used to develop a small animal area.
“Further plans include animal feed and bedding sheds that are easily accessible to the students and a hand wash station.”
