A TWO-month festival launches in Lastingham this week.
St Mary’s Church, in the village is hosting the event in celebration of the Northern Saints, most notably St Cedd who founded a monastery in Lastingham in AD 654, and will include a Flower Festival, Exhibition, organ recitals, concerts and workshops across the local area.
The festival launches on Friday, June 28, at 7pm with the opening of the Flower Festival and a organ recital by the Right Reverend Paul Ferguson, Bishop of Whitby. Admission is free,
Other events include Tales from the Dales, an evening with Adam Collier on Friday, July 26 and York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir on Friday, August 2.
The festival concludes on Saturday, August 31, at 7pm, with a concert led by The Galliard Consort who will bring a programme of music ranging from the 12thCentury to the present day.
Proceeds will be donated to the St Mary’s Church lighting fund.
