AS PART of Safeguarding Week England’s Illegal Money Lending Team mascot ‘Sid the Shark’ will be visiting Morrisons car park in Castlegate, Malton on Friday, June 28, between 10am and 2pm to raise awareness of the dangers of using loan sharks.
There will also be information about alternative safer forms of lending such as credit unions.
Money confiscated from convicted loan sharks will also be used to back new credit union accounts in Ryedale.
Councillor Keane Duncan, Leader of Ryedale District Council, said: “The council work closely with Community First Credit Union to help provide an alternative to high street banking and an option for local residents who struggle to access mainstream banking”
The first 50 people to join Community First Credit Union and make regular instalments into their account will qualify for a savings boost of £25.
