A LAND Rover was stolen overnight from a Ryedale village, with another attempted theft reported.

Police said that a black Land Rover Discovery - registration YK07 YUL - was stolen from a property on Main St, Foxholes overnight, and was reported at 6.45am this morning.

Separately, there was an attempted theft of a Land Rover Defender from a property in Hovingham, which is believed to have happened between 9pm and 6am.

The Hovingham vehicle's windows had been left down.

PCSO Sally Breen, from North Yorkshire Police’s Rural Taskforce, said: “It’s important that anyone who owns a Land Rover – particularly if it’s parked in an unpopulated or rural area – to take extra steps to ensure it is left safe and secure.

“It’s much better to spend a bit of time and money now on improving your security than to go through the inconvenience and upset of having your vehicle stolen.

“Members of the public act as our eyes and ears, and so if you are aware of any suspicious activity around parked vehicles, don’t hesitate to contact us, and we will take action.”

Police are appealing for information on either theft. Anyone who can help can dial 101, quoting incident number 12190109418 for the Hovingham incident, and 12190109407 for the Foxholes theft.
