THE SONGS of Leonard Cohen will be remembered at a special evening dedicated to the acclaimed singer at the Milton Rooms in Malton on Saturday, June 22.

Keith James, a musician with 40 years of performing experience, will explore Cohen’s classic back catalogue which includes songs such as Hallelujah, Suzanne and I’m Your Man.

Keith said: “Leonard Cohen was an unflinching character with an exact sense of prose, wry humour and the courage to wrestle with the unspoken, forgiving human frailty with the stroke of each line. His music befriended an entire generation."

The following week acclaimed guitar virtuoso Claude Bourbon will make Malton a stop on his musical journey on Friday, June 28.

Merryn Wilderspin, marketing lead at the Milton Rooms, said: “It’s difficult to describe the different influences in Claude’s performances.

“They all seem to melt into each other – beginning with classical openings and then taking in a whole continent of cultural roots, from the Balearics to the Balkans and across to the Mississippi Delta.

“I would urge you to catch Claude in action, it is a sort of sensory experience like no other and a rare chance to see a top master of his craft.”

Tickets for both Keith James and Claude Bourbon are available from themiltonrooms.com or the box office on 01653 696240.
