AN annual event giving horse-riders the opportunity to explore land not normally accessible to the public takes place later this month.

Ride Yorkshire is organising the charity ride at the Duncombe Park Estate, in support of Malton-based charity Ryedale Special Families (RSF) on Saturday, June 29.

There are ride lengths to suit every horse and rider, from 2.5 miles to 13 miles, including challenging hill routes. Most of the riding takes place within Duncombe Park on land not normally accessible to the public, thanks to permission from estate owner Jake Duncombe, with further sections on the bridleways and lanes of the North York Moors National Park.

Ride for Yorkshire is a not-for-profit organisation whose principal aim is to get people enjoying the Yorkshire countryside on horseback.

Director Janet Cochrane said: “It’s the third year we’ve been invited back to the lovely venue of Duncombe Park Estate and we’re so looking forward to being there again.

“We’re also extremely grateful for the support of the Rotary Club of Moors Gateway, whose members come along and cheerfully open gates for our riders and help out in other ways.”

RSF is currently fundraising towards for new purpose-built premises which will give the charity more flexibility and create a facility that exactly fits its requirements.

The charity has reached its initial target of £100,000 and is now developing plans for the next stage of the campaign and has begun the process of looking at available land.

Rob Davies, funding coordinator for RSF, said: “Ride Yorkshire has been supporting us with this event for a few years now and it’s always a brilliant day.

“We’re extremely grateful to everyone involved.”

The entry fee is £26, which includes a buffet lunch with hot or cold drinks and a rosette. The rosettes and other aspects of the event are ponsored by Parnaby’s of Malton
