RYEDALE MP Kevin Hollinrake said he is 'very sorry' to see the Prime Minister resign.

Theresa May announced her resignation in Downing Street this morning.

Mr Hollinrake said: " I am very sorry that she has felt she has to go. Mrs May has tried everything and worked worked extremely hard. I am very sorry she has not been able to get her Brexit plan through and feels it is the right thing that someone else move things forward.

"I wish her well and hope to see an orderly and dignified next stage where the Prime Minister can pass on her office and be thanked for her hard work."

Mr Hollinrake said: "The next leader needs be someone who supports Brexit and I will be supporting Michael Gove. I will, however, respect the decision of my colleagues in Parliament and Conservative membership whoever it is decided will take over."
