STEVE Cassidy is assembling a group of fellow York musicians to perform a fundraising gig for York Against Cancer on June 9 at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York.

Singer, songwriter and former head teacher Steve will host Songs And Stories in the company of John Lewis, "Las Vegas" Ken Sanderson, Geoff Earp, Graham Metcalf, Billy Leonard, Graham Hodge, Mick Hull, Rachel Hodgson and John Gannon.

"We’ve all known each other for years from being musicians in York," says Steve, a three-times winner of ITV’s New Faces talent show. "We did a charity concert on St Patrick’s Day where we sat on stage and swapped songs with one another. The audience loved it and we had a great time, so we’ve decided to do it again.

"I don’t think there’s anybody who doesn’t know someone who's had cancer, so I think York Against Cancer is a very appropriate cause for this charity event."

The 7.30pm repertoire will cover everything from folk and country to The Beatles, says Steve. "Tickets for this evening of entertainment are being snapped up already, but we want as many people as possible to come along, enjoy themselves and make a major fundraising impact for the charity," he adds.

Tickets cost £7, concessions £6, on 01904 501935 or at josephrowntreetheatre.co.uk.
