MUSICIANS of all ages have completed a series of physical challenges to raise money for new band hall.

Kirkbymoorside Town Brass Band is currently fundraising for a joint scout and band hall to be built in Manor Vale.

The hall will enable the band to continue its world leading teaching to more than 120 adults and children from Kirkbymoorside and the surrounding villages.

It will also create a new 200-seat concert hall and help secure both the future of the band, but also scouting in Kirkbymoorside, who will also have their home there.

As the building work reaches its final stage, players are raising funds to complete the project.

Three of the band’s younger players, Charlie Flintoft, Ella Smailes, both aged 11, and Theo Flintoft, 10, travelled to London to scale the 02 Arena.

The trio braved extremely harsh winds and rain to reach the top of the 100 metre high diameter structure. Leading the expedition they reached the top in just under 25 minutes.

In total the team, who play in the beginner, learner and training bands have raised more than £350 for the new band hall.

Ella said: “Even though it was scary at times, it was a brilliant experience.

“I was really pleased to have done it. The view was amazing.”

Meanwhile, fellow band member Joe Sails, raised more than £900 by completing the Kirkbymoorside 10K carrying a bass.

Joe completed the run in 57 minutes carrying the E Flat bass, which raises more than 13kg.

Joe said: “I was joined by Matthew Baildon of JRA Computer services.

“It was great to have the support of spectators and fellow runners alike.

“The biggest cheer erupted as we ran down Kirkbymoorside main street. It was amazing.”
