A GROUP of fundraisers are aiming to complete a coastal walk after being inspired by one of their work colleague’s battle with cancer.

Team Towler, from Towler’s Chemist in Kirkbymoorside, are doing the 21.5-mile walk from Scarborough to Whitby, along the Cinder Track, on Sunday, May 19.

Organiser Laura Paton said she had decided to set herself a series of challenges after turning 30 this year.

“I wanted to tick a few things off my bucket list and set myself some challenges and decided to organise this walk,” she said.

“After suggesting it to my colleagues, a group from Towler’s Chemist have come together as a team to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.

“We have chosen this charity as many know that one of our lovely colleagues and friend Jane Bernstein and her family have been greatly affected by breast cancer over the years.

“Jane is very well known and is such a lovely, lovely lady that we wanted to do something to support her and breast cancer research.”

Laura said the ages of the team ranged from 30 to 67.

“It will be quite a challenge but we have all been training and hopefully it will be a fine day,” she said.

“We are setting off at 8am and hope to complete the walk at tea time, followed by fish and chips.”

Laura said they had also run a cake stall and raffle at Towlers.

“The winner of the tea hamper was Edna Robson and Carol Woodward won the Prosecco hamper. We are also having a pink week next week,” she said.

“We are walking for everyone affected by breast cancer and the money raised will help Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now unite, with the aim that one day everyone who develops breast cancer will live, and until then, everyone will receive the care, support and information they need to live well through breast cancer.

“We are really overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity and would like to thank everyone who has donated.”
