A BUSINESS owner who is taking on the “Ride of His Life” to raise funds for charity is over half-way to his target.

Karl Avison, who runs Cedarbarn Farmshop, near Pickering, with his wife, Mandy, is taking part in this year’s Macmillan Ride of their Lives on Saturday, June 15, at York Racecourse.

He was prompted to take part after his father was helped by Macmillan when he was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive brain tumour in 2006.

Karl has pledged to raise £10,000 and has so far raised more than £6,000. His next fundraiser is a Pop-up Restaurant with Steph Moon on Friday, May 24.

Karl said: “We are looking forward to welcoming award-winning Yorkshire celebrity chef Step from the BBC’s Great British Menu who will join Cedarbarn head chef Mike Brown to produce a special menu prepared with our own and locally-sourced produce for a delicious dining experience in the Cedarbarn Garden Room. We will also have music from the amazing Mellow Cello.”

Karl added: “I’m seriously excited about the race, I am very competitive but my only worry is not to make a fool of myself. I know it is going to be incredibly hard work but “Bring it on, I am ready for the challenge.”

Further fundraising events include a giant family fun day on Saturday, June 1 when there will be a giant inflatable assault course and mini version for the children, plus lots more other activities for all the family, music, and refreshments, followed by Giant Pilates on Sunday, June 9.
