A MAN was arrested in Malton on suspicion of possession of a firearm last week.

In an appeal for witnesses and information, North Yorkshire Police said that they received reports of a "man with a weapon" at the Maltings, Castlegate.

The incident happened at 6.20pm on Monday April 29.

Police said: "No threats were made and nobody was injured, however the man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm."

They added that the local man in his 40s has since been released under investigation while officers conduct enquiries.

"We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident," they said.
