THE first monthly village market in Sheriff Hutton was a great success.
Hundreds of people dropped into the market on last month with visitors coming from within the village and further afield - even as far as Pontefract - to peruse the stalls in the spring sunshine.
The stalls were selling a wide range of locally-made produce and goods, and there was coffee and cake at a market cafe.
The market was opened by six-year-old Oscar Fairweather and posters designed by village schoolchildren were on display.
James Knock, a member of the market committee, said: “We were really keen to involve the villagers in the market and the support we received from visitors has been brilliant. The feedback has been great so far and we’re excited to build on that for the next market.”
Profits from the market will benefit local village causes, projects and organisations. The café will be run by a different village group each month and they will keep the funds that they raise.
The next market will be on Sunday, April 14. Anyone interested in being a stallholder can email mail@shvm.co.uk although the market is close to capacity. For details, go to shvm.co.uk.
