JOE Danby was the Pickering Town match-winner as the Pikes claimed an impressive 2-1 victory at Belper Town.

Denny Ingram's men climb to 15th in the Evo-Stik League east division following the win over their ninth-placed hosts.

Daniel Earl puts the visitors ahead in the 24th minute, but that advantage lasted just seven minutes before Alex Peterson pulled the home side level.

However, Pickering completed the scoring in the 53rd minute when Danby netted a crucial winning goal.

That leaves the Pikes six points clear of the bottom two – with games still in hand.

In the tier above, Scarborough Athletic were held 1-1 at home by Lancaster City.

James Walshaw put the Seadogs in front on the stroke of half-time, but Athletic were denied all three points by Paul Dawson's spot-kick three minutes from time.

That result leaves Scarborough in seventh place in the premier division, six points adrift of the play-off spots.

There were contrasting results for our local sides in the Northern Counties East League premier division.

Knaresborough Town claimed an impressive 3-0 away victory at Bottesford Town – Robert Worrall (2) and Brad Walker the scorers.

However, Harrogate Railway Athletic were thrashed 5-1 at home by fellow strugglers Goole AFC.

In division one, Selby Town drew 1-1 at Nostell Miners Welfare, with Gary Collier netting the Robins' equaliser in the 39th minute.

Harrogate Town fought out an entertaining 2-2 draw with lowly Maidstone United at the CNG Stadium.

Mark Beck gave Town a 21st minute lead but the hosts found themselves behind thanks to Justin Nwogu's brace either side of half-time. Jack Muldoon's penalty, shortly after the hour mark, salvaged a point for the home side.
