THREE Ryedale charities are among 55 groups in Yorkshire who are now proud holders of the Duke of York Community Initiative.

Ryedale Community Transport (RCT) and Sight Support Ryedale, in Norton, plus the Riding for the Disabled group at Welburn Hall School, Kirkbymoorside, have successfully met the terms of the initiative’s assessment criteria. Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team (SRMRT) also got an award.

Ken Gill of RCT, said: “This year we are celebrating our 30th year and there can surely be no greater recognition of all the hard work of our staff and many volunteers, by ending the celebrations with an accolade such as a Royal award.”

Julie Atkinson of Sight Support Ryedale added: “We are delighted to receive the Duke of York Community Initiative Award once again.” To be recognised as a quality provider of services to blind and partially sighted people, in Ryedale, is not only of great value to us as an organisation but also a credit to our hardworking staff and volunteers.”

Representatives from the successful groups will receive their award from HRH The Duke of York at a special ceremony that will take place in North Yorkshire in early Spring.
