MALTON & Norton Golf Club has raised £200 for Macmillan Cancer Care at its first event of the 2019 season.

Malton and Norton Golf Club’s 2019 Ladies’ Captain, Claire Nutt, confirmed the cancer support charity as her charity of the year at a lunch attended by more than 40 guests last week.

“I chose Macmillan because of a dear friend, Lucy,” she said. “Lucy was a nurse herself but sadly died of a brain tumour in 2018. The Macmillan nurses were on 24-hour call out and were marvellous.”

The day also featured a nine hole golf competition, which was won by the team of Wendy Allan, Wendy Chapman, Brenda Nobbs and Irene Sellars.

Following the competition, a fundraising manager from Macmillan Cancer Care, Sarah Childs, gave a presentation on the role of Macmillan in the community and how volunteers could get involved.

Ms Nutt said: “I will be organising lots of events this year to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care, and some of them will be open to non-members. Our next event is a social afternoon on Wednesday, March 27, from 2.30pm. We will be serving tea and coffee with cream scones for just £4 per ticket.

“Darcy and Wolf Jewellery and Bags of Desire will be selling their products.

“Everyone is welcome to join us.”

Malton and Norton Golf club recently underwent a major refurbishment and is open to the general public for lunches, functions, meeting room hire and Sunday lunches.
