A MAN has been given a community order and banned from a Malton bar for two years after admitting to causing criminal damage.
Charles Frederick Hancock, 22, of Sandy Lane, Stockton-on-the-Forest, pleaded guilty to damaging two glass doors and an A-board at Brass Castle tap-room at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The court heard that on February 20, Hancock got into an argument with a staff member, who described him as a good friend. But when the staff member closed the doors at about 9pm, the argument led to Hancock “losing it” and kicking the glass doors of the pub. The owner of the bar estimated that the damage would cost about £1,100 to repair.
In mitigation, Robert Vining, said: “He’s embarrassed to find himself here and accepts his behaviour was stupid. It was an argument about nothing - he seems to have lost the plot. He accepts he’s got to pay. He thinks he’d had a little more than was good for him at the time, and he made a full and frank admission to police at interview.”
Hancock was sentenced to 80 hours community work, reduced because of his guilty plea. He was also ordered to pay £500 compensation to Brass Castle, an £85 surcharge and costs of £85, totalling £670.
