SHERIFF Hutton is hosting its first monthly market on Sunday.

The market will take place on the third Sunday of every month, from 10.30am to 1.30pm, at Sheriff Hutton Village Hall.

Louise Chandler, who came up with the idea, said: “Other local markets have been very successful in raising money for their villages and projects, and I thought that something similar could be set up in Sheriff Hutton.”

The market is being run by a team of volunteers and will include more than 40 stalls operated by independent, local traders.

“We’re really keen for the market to support our local businesses and those within the surrounding area whilst raising funds for our community,” said Louise.

Any funds raised from stallholder fees will be distributed to those demonstrating a need of support, while local groups have been invited to take turns in running the market café allowing them to raise money to benefit their group.

Louise said: “We’re really excited to be starting an event that can benefit everyone in the village. Hopefully the market will help to showcase our village to the wider world as a place to visit.”
