THE head of women and girls rugby at the Gannock in Malton has enjoyed a visit to Twickenham Stadium for a volunteer recognition lunch hosted by RFU president Chris Kelly.
Ian Hepworth relaunched the girls’ teams at Malton and Norton RUFC just over four years ago, followed by the senior women’s team last year.
He said: “Last autumn I became the integration and development chairman for women and girls rugby for Yorkshire RFU. Out of the blue I got an email inviting me to the lunch.
"It coincided with my partner Sarah Kent being down in London for work so I was glad to be able to take her along.
"It was a great opportunity to meet other volunteers and share good practice. Events like these aren’t why I do what I do but it was nice to get invited. It gives you a boost and spurs you on a bit.
"The club is always interested to hear from people willing to give up some time helping grow sport in the local community, get in touch via the club website or Facebook page.”
