MALTON army cadet Daniella Recchia, 17, has been honoured by one of the oldest merchant guilds in the country for showing commitment above and beyond what is expected.

Daniella, who attends Scarborough Sixth Form College and formally went to Norton College, was presented with a specially engraved tankard at a ceremony in York’s Merchant Adventurers’ last Thursday.

Timothy Marks, governor of the Company of Merchant Adventurers, said: “It is important that organisations like ours support the work and values of both the cadet and armed forces and express our gratitude for what they do on our behalf.”

Daniella is a company sergeant major in the Malton Detachment of the Army Cadet Force which she joined three years ago. She has completed her Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards and was appointed as the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet of North Yorkshire in November 2018.

She was nominated by Captain Michelle Goodwin who said: “Daniella is the perfect example of what young people can achieve when they put their mind to it. She has reached the pinnacle of her cadet career and always goes the extra mile to support the junior cadets.

“The levels of respect she has earned from cadets and adult instructors alike is outstanding.”
