A RYEDALE restaurant is appearing on a new television programme this week with its “best scampi in Britain”.

The Stapylton Arms, in Wass, which is run by Robert and Gillian Thompson, will feature on James Martin’s Great British Adventure.

Robert said: “James’ mum, Sue has been friends of ours for several years and James openly broadcasts that The Stapylton Arms is his mum’s favourite pub.

“She visits regularly with family and James has eaten with her on several occasions.

“James filmed here last summer with his production company Blue Marlin, and we are to feature on his new TV show – James Martin’s Great British Adventure.

“Here you will see me prepare lightly-battered scampi – a dish that we have become renowned for which James claims is ‘the best scampi in Britain’.”

Robert added: “He sits and eats the scampi at the table with his mum and Lisa Allen, executive chef of the Michelin-starred Northcote restaurant in Lancashire.

“This is the first time his mother has appeared on one of his programmes in 10 years.”

Robert said they also featured in James’ 2018 On the Road…Again tour and in his new book, James Martin’s Great British Adventure – A Celebration of Great British Food.

The Stapylton Arms features in James Martin’s Great British Adventure on ITV on Friday, February 15, from 2pm to 3pm.
