KIRKBYMOORSIDE Town Council is holding an informal meeting about traffic concerns on West End.

The authority has written to local residents about the meeting to be held tomorrow, Tuesday February 5, at the Moorside Room on Church Street. Both town and county councillors will be present.

The heavy traffic on West End and the issues it creates for residents and pedestrians has been a key area of discussion for the town council at its monthly meetings, most recently at its meeting on January 21.

The town council is not in charge of highways so does not have the authority to unilaterally make changes to the town's road system, but it can make representations on behalf of residents to the county council.

West End has been a growing area of concern for many residents. Last year, hundreds signed a petition to sort out speeding and congestion.

But the town council has run into problems on how to solve the problem, including a lack of funds to trial a potential one-way system.

However, in its letter the town council's clerk told residents: "Please be assured at the town council is doing everything possible to find a solution to the traffic concerns on West End."
