AN upcoming Norton DJ has been nominated for the Young Achiever Award at this year’s Yorkshire Choice Awards.

Callum Russell, 16, started DJing when he was given decks for Christmas in 2017. This quickly led to an on-stage performance as part of his music studies at Norton College, which in turn led to performances at the 2018 Staxtonbury festival and, with the support of local presenter Ryan Swain, at several local bars and pubs.

Callum said: “I have had an amazing year with some fantastic opportunities. To be nominated for the Yorkshire Choice Award as Young Achiever of the Year is the best Christmas present I could ask for.

"Thank you to everyone that has given me support, votes and to who nominated me for the award. I really cannot believe it. I am looking forward to an equally amazing 2019.”

The Yorkshire Choice Awards are decided by public votes, which can be cast at yorkshirechoiceawards.co.uk/votehere. The winners will be announced in April.
