THE four Yorkshiremen, known collectively as Row4Victory, have less than 500 nautical miles left to reach the finish line in their gruelling race across the Atlantic Ocean.

The team are due to reach English Harbour in Antigua on Monday January 21 after they’ve rowed the final stretch of the 3000-mile race.

The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge began at La Gomera in the Canary Islands on December 12 and has seen the foursome rowing in pairs - two hours on and two hours off - around the clock.

Rowing to raise money for Ryedale-based charity Soldier On! and the Royal British Legion, they’re currently in fifth place overall and going for fourth, closing in on South African team Mad4Waves.

Team member Will Quarmby said: "With less than 500 miles left to go we dare to visualize Antigua and the finish line of the 2018 Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge.

"Arriving in the harbour will make four Yorkshire men very proud after us rowing relentlessly around the clock for 40 days in an eight-meter rowing boat. With sleep deprivation, sores, injuries, and ration packs, seeing our much-missed loved ones will be a welcome treat.

“Arriving in Antigua will be special but not as special as getting back to God’s Own County. The amazing support we have received from all our friends, families and sponsors has been incredible.

"We would not have been able to make it to the start line were not for Yorkshire getting behind us and allowing us to raise as much as possible for our two charities.”
