POLICE seized a car and charged a woman over shoplifting offences.
North Yorkshire Police said the woman, from Somerset, was charged with two counts of theft following reports of shoplifting in York and Helmsley.
A spokesman said: "On the afternoon of January 10, police received a report of theft from Asda in Monks Cross, York, followed by a second report of theft from Fat Face in Helmsley.
"Observations were circulated for a vehicle linked to the suspects which was intercepted at around 2.30pm in Helmsley market place.
"A man and a woman, both from Watchet in Somerset were arrested.
"The woman, 33, has been charged with two counts of theft and is due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on February 14."
The man, 34, remained in police custody, and police said the vehicle was seized along with a number of items of suspected stolen clothing.
