WORK to revamp Scarborough Bridge is currently on schedule, according to the leader of City of York Council.
A report prepared for a meeting on Thursday said the project is on track to be completed by the middle of March 2019.
Construction has already started on site for the £4.5 million scheme to create a new pedestrian and cycle bridge, which will be 3.7 metres wide.
The structure is being built off-site in Glasgow. The existing footbridge will be removed and the new one will be lifted into place using rail cranes in February. The report says the crossing will “provide a step free cycle/pedestrian route between the station and the north side of the river which will be unaffected by high river levels”.
Council leader Ian Gillies, speaking at the meeting, said he is glad to see progress being made at the site.
Cllr Andy D’Agorne added the upgrade is “very welcome”.
