A LENGTHY police chase at the weekend resulted in the recovery of stolen chainsaws and hedge trimmers.
The theft of a quad bike and other machinery from a farm in Ryedale was reported in the very early hours of Sunday (yesterday) morning.
In a post on social media, police said: "Response officers from Whitby sighted the vehicle and managed to follow it into Cleveland - despite having items thrown at them by the offenders."
Joining with officers from the Cleveland force, polcie pursued the vehicle off-road and over fields near Guisborough until they were unable to follow due to the terrain.
They went on: "A short time later it was sighted by Cleveland & Durham RPU who deployed a stinger and pursued it a short distance until it was abandoned in Middlesbrough.
"The quad bike and several items of suspected stolen machinery - including chainsaws and a hedge trimmer - were recovered and will be returned to their owner.
"Enquiries are ongoing to trace the offenders."
