PLANS to build 65 timber holiday homes on an airfield near Wombleton are set to be thrown out by councillors tonight (Tuesday).

The application, which is being discussed by members of Ryedale District Council’s planning committee, has been submitted by GraceMax Ltd and proposes to construct the holiday park in a field off Hungerhill Lane.

The contentious application has attracted about 28 letters of objection. There is also about eight letters of support - though the planning officers’ report stated that one letter of support came from an address - Wombleton Grange Barn - that “doesn’t exist”.

The report also indicates that another, separate application exists for a different 60-lodge holiday park elsewhere on the airfield. “That application is yet to be determined,” the report states.

The application was recommended for refusal by planning officers, chiefly due to the “extreme and adverse juxtaposition” of the proposed development in relation to the nearby operational runway.

This proximity would, officers said, create “an unacceptable safety risk”.
