JOIN world class guitarists for a weekend of blues and roots

Virtuoso slide guitarist and blues innovator Michael Messer presents the Acoustic Blues & Roots Weekend at Pocklington Arts Centre (PAC) from Friday, November 16 to Sunday, November 18.

The event, which has become a firm favourite in PAC’s programme of live events over the past 15 years or so, features guitar and slide guitar tuition, jam sessions, student performances, great company, and a special Saturday night concert.

This is a weekend for anyone interested in playing acoustic guitar and slide guitar in blues and roots styles. All levels are welcome.

Michael, who took over the running of the weekend five years ago, said: “I have been coming to this weekend for a long time, I just love it, and the venue is perfect for it.”

Joining Michael will be master guitarist Damir Halilic, otherwise known as ‘Hal’ who will be teaching fingerstyle guitar.

Michael said: “Hal is quite simply one of the greatest guitarists in the world; it’s quite special to have him here to do this.

“In the past decade, Hal has recorded six highly acclaimed albums and collaborated with many of the world’s top guitarists, including Martin Taylor, Tommy Emmanuel, Woody Mann, BJ Cole and John Jorgensen.

“Spending time with Hal in his classes and at the evening events will be a fantastic experience for everyone involved.”

Michael will be teaching slide and lap steel guitar. His reputation as a virtuoso slide guitarist, blues innovator and teacher is well known.

Throughout his 35-year recording career, Michael’s music has remained individual and contemporary. He has released no less than 10 albums, won many awards, had number one blues albums, toured worldwide and has a successful line of MM resonator guitars.

Johnny Cash was a fan and wrote the sleeve notes for Michael’s album, ‘Rhythm Oil’.

A highlight of the weekend is the Acoustic Blues House Party on Saturday, November 17, 8pm, which provides a unique opportunity to hear Michael and Hal playing together, solo, and with some guests in an intimate, relaxed ‘unplugged’ style performance.

Tickets are £145 (full weekend), £35 (Friday only), £80 (Saturday & concert). Acoustic Blues House Party tickets only £12 each. For more information contact the Box Office on 01759 301547 or visit www.pocklingtonartscentre.co.uk
