A MEMBER of the 1323 (Ryedale) Squadron Air Training Corps has picked up a commendation for his photography work as part of the communications team.

Flight Sergeant Colin Bell travelled to Royal Air Force College Cranwell to attend the presentation ceremony for the RAF Command 3 Star Deputy Commanders Team Commendation.

The commendation, awarded as part of this year’s New Year’s Honours awards, was given to the RAF Air Cadets Media Team for their work and promotion of the RAF Air Cadets during its 75th anniversary year, and their ongoing behind-the-scenes work for the cadets.

Colin, a member of the team as corps photographer for the north of England, provided media cover for high-profile events during the year, including the ATC75 Torch Relay from John O’ Groats to Lands End, Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Dawn McAfferty’s Charity Wing Walk and numerous local squadron events, parades and public engagements.

Colin said: “To be part of such an important team within the RAF Air Cadets is an honour and a privilege, and to be recognised as part of this team with such a prestigious award is something I would never have thought possible. To be named on the commendation and citation, along with the rest of the team was an unexpected surprise.”

The presentation of the award took place at the iconic College Hall Officers Mess at Cranwell, and was presided over by Air Vice Marshal W James, Air Officer Commanding 22 Group Royal Air Force.
