PUPILS at Gillamoor Primary School celebrated their harvest festival with parents, grandparents, and members of the community,

The pupils also collected a large amount of tinned goods and non-perishable food items for Ryedale Foodbank in Malton.

Head teacher Alison Tweddle said: “It is important for our pupils to understand that sadly there are families in our communities who struggle to provide enough food for their children.”

Parent governor Claire Brackley, from Kirkbymoorside, said: “We listened to poems, readings and some very nice singing and instrument playing. It was lovely to see the children enjoying their performance so much. Lots of smiling faces.”

After the service, Year 6 students served coffee and homemade cakes to the congregation.

Gillamoor resident and governor Peter Kirk said: “A lot of work had gone into preparing and the rendition of the Samba was a particular treat. The juniors had written words to accompany a pop song, which enabled them to captivate the congregation.”
