STUDENTS at Lady Lumley’s School in Pickering have been helping to create a special art installation

Pickering’s Parish Church invited pupils and local people to help make hundreds of poppies to display around the town’s war memorial.

Father Antony Pritchett said: “The church marked the100th anniversary of the start of the First World War in 2014 with a special service, so it’s right that we mark the centenary of the end of the war as we remember those who came from Pickering and gave their lives.

“The town’s war memorial was put up in 1919. It was given by public subscription from the townsfolk and the peal of bells and the chiming mechanism of the town clock form part of the town’s war memorial too. So it’s a really special memorial in so many ways.”
