MALTON railway station is one of the worst performing in the country, according to an online ranking site.
OnTimeTrains.co.uk gives stations performance scores that are calculated on service punctuality and cancellation frequency.
The site ranked Malton, which is run by TransPennine Express, 2,602 out of 2,613 stations, putting it in the bottom 12 stations in the country.
The score is based on Malton’s performance over the past 12 weeks.
Late and cancelled trains on the York to Scarborough line have been a feature of the whole summer, particularly since a timetable change in May.
In July, the company offered a compensation scheme, in addition to the “delay repay” service,
for customers affected by
late trains and service cancellations.
In September Ryedale MP Kevin Hollinrake called for the transport secretary to “urgently review” the approach to delivering services between Network Rail and train operators.
And in late September the Transport for the North group told local councillors that reliability was up to 80 per cent after the lows of summer, and that TransPennine was aiming to improve it further.
A TransPennine Express spokesman said: “Over the summer, rail customers in the Malton experienced significant disruption to their journeys.
“Since May, the rail industry has been working together to rectify this and we’re pleased that the reliability of services has been steadily improving.
“We will continue to work together to ensure this improvement continues.”
Neighbouring station also fare poorly in the OnTimeTrains.co.uk performance listings. York station is 2,542, while Seamer is ranked 2,573.
