A FORMER private school in Ryedale is set to become available for private hire.
Grade I listed Howsham Hall was a private school until 2007, when it became a single dwelling.
Now, planning consent has been sought from Ryedale District Council to change the hall to a dual use of both residential and private hire events, including a temporary outdoor marquee for no more than four five-day periods per year.
The planning report notes that the running costs of the hall are “considerable”, being in the region of £180,000 a year - excluding any unplanned or unforeseen maintenance.
There have been 12 responses of concern or objection from members of the public, with issues such as traffic and noise disturbance among their concerns.
The consent will be discussed at RDC’s planning committee tonight (Tuesday), and is recommended for conditional approval by planning officers.
