Armed officers and a police helicopter were called to reports of threats of violence in Malton last night.
Police were alerted at 8.56pm on Sunday to reports of a violent threat at the Tara Park travellers' site at Malton.
A police spokesperson said: The attending officers were supported by the Firearms Support Unit and a police helicopter.
"The group responsible for the alleged threats had already made off from the area when police arrived at 9.08pm.
"Officers conducted a number of enquiries at the site in order to ensure that all occupants were safe.
"Reassurance patrols and enhanced engagement with the residents is taking place while enquiries continue into the incident."
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1, and speak to the Force Control Room.
