POLICE have used a tyre stinger and 'tactical pursuit and containment' tactics (TPaC) to stop a speeding car on the A64.

The force followed the vehicle all the way from Knaresborough last night, with a pursuit that continued along the A59 and through the city of York.

On social media, police posted a video of the deployment of the stinger near Flaxton.

They said: "On Monday night our colleagues from the Firearms Support Unit tried to stop a vehicle near Knaresborough which they suspected had no insurance.

"The vehicle failed to stop for them and was pursued along the A59 to York.

"The pursuit continued through the city, through several red lights and the wrong way around roundabouts and bollards before heading back out of York through Strensall.

"We were waiting near Flaxton and managed to deploy a stinger to puncture the tyres.

"The van continued onto the A64 where a short time later it was boxed in and stopped using TPaC tactics."

They added that the driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and having no insurance. He remains in police custody.
