MEMBERS of Malton and Norton Area Partnership (MNAP) welcomed representatives of funders Yorventure to view their completed riverside project in Lady Spring Wood last week.

The project was chosen for the visit as one of the funding body’s success stories.

The party viewed the new bridge at The Gannock, installed by the conservation volunteers under the structural engineering guidance of Malton-based Maltech, who gave their time and expertise for free to MNAP.

They also saw where the damaged boardwalks were removed from the riverside and the springs-side of the wood, and the now completed replacement recycled plastic boardwalk around the springs and earth path by the river.

The group were also told about the community and partners who have helped to make the project happen, including the Internal Drainage Board, Community Payback Team (Interserve), the Lions, Malton and Old Malton Cricket Club, Tate Smith Ltd, Malton Relish and the individuals who gave their time.

Geoff Derham, Yorwaste’s group operations director, said: “This is an excellent example of how funding from our landfill operations can help to support local communities and we are pleased to be associated with this fantastic project.”

Sarah Oswald, member of MNAP, said: “It was a privilege to be able to showcase the project to our funders at Yorventure. Their contribution of just over £17,000 was a key part of our funding package to be able to make this project happen and their support is greatly appreciated.”

Sarah added that MNAP raised over £90,000 for all the immediate capital works thanks to Yorventure, to Ryedale District Council S106 grants, North Yorkshire County Council Locality Budget and crowdfunding supporters.

“MNAP and Malton Town Council are committed to maintaining this wonderful area for the community and it will cost up to £2,000 per year for the lease, insurance and ongoing care and maintenance.

“MNAP will continue to fundraise and are grateful to Malton Cookery School and The Smile Rooms who have already provided sponsorship. Individuals, organisations and businesses are invited to become a sponsor.”
