A FIELD in Norton is set for 27 new office and industrial units as part of a new development.

The application, which is being discussed by Ryedale District Council planning committee tonight (Tuesday), has been recommended for approval by planning officers. It is for a 1.4 hectare site next to Priorpot Beck, which is allocated for industrial/business site within the current Ryedale Local Plan.

The plan, which includes new access from Westfield Way, is for 11 office units and 16 industrial units. The application says it could create 50 new jobs.

The Scarborough-based agents Hayes Associates said in their planning application that the site has already had planning permission for a similar development granted in 2009 and then refreshed in

2011.

They said: “The design of the proposed scheme aims to create a sustainable business community that will be in keeping with the scale of the existing locality.

“The proposed buildings have been designed to be mostly hidden from outside the site and will only become visible once entering.”

It attracted 27 letters of objection from neighbours, on grounds ranging from impact on local wildlife to traffic movements.

But the planning officer’s report said that “extensive” survey work had been done for the site in a range of areas including ecology, noise assessment and transport, and they recommended the plan for approval.
