Officers are appealing for witnesses and information after a teenage cyclist sustained serious head injuries in a crash this morning.

The incident happened shortly after 8am on Cordike Lane, Langton and involved a green Toyota Hilux and a pedal cycle. The Toyota was travelling from the direction of Eddlethorpe towards Langton and the pedal cycle in the direction from Burythorpe towards Acklam.

The rider of the pedal cycle, an 18-year-old man from the Malton area, was airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary with serious head injuries.

The occupants of the Toyota, a male driver and male passenger, were uninjured in the incident.

The road was closed until 11.45am to allow police to work at the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the cycle or Toyota prior to the collision is asked to contact police.
