THIS week’s Way We Were photos have been supplied by the Woodham-Stone Collection.
The top two photos were taken outside the old council building on Scarborough Road, Norton. The lady in the photo is Kathleen Taylor and it is a tree planting ceremony to commemorate the Queen’s Coronation in 1953.
Castle Howard Reformatory School Band leads the procession which could also be a celebration of the Coronation, left.
Below left is Walter Wilson’s Shop on Wheelgate with Mr Walker the manager on the right and the photo of Ernie Baker’s Band, below, was taken in 1927 at the grand opening of the Empire Ballroom.
The Woodhams-Stone Collection includes items collected by Norton born and bred Sid Woodhams and John Stone over the last 50 years.
If anyone has any information about the photos email woodhamsstonecollection@gmail.com
